August Empress Website & Jim Sherraden from Hatch

August Empress Website
http://www.augustempress.com/
I've been to this website a couple of times and noticed the beautiful
graphic design for the website. My favorite part is the organization of all the information and patterns. With a website about patterns and other creative means it could become chaotic. The type choice is a beautiful flowing with a creative twist. You should check it out & use some of their fabulous patterns!
HATCH SHOW PRINT

I also wanted to give a special thanks to Hatch show print for coming out to speak with us this week! He shared some beautiful posters my favorites were Norah Jones and Taylor Swift. He was very down to earth and personable!  It was an awesome presentation and I have a new respect for their art - Beautiful! Thanks Jim Sherraden!

Salon Modern Package Design

Salon Modern Package Design
I found this on the internet on a website called lovelypackage.com all about various package designs. This is for shampoos, conditioners, and other beauty products carried at hair salons. My favorite part of this design is the pattern used on the background tieing all of the pieces together. The type work is clean and modern helping the overall feel of the pieces. The colors are vibrant and eyecatching. Overall I think it is good design with balance and unity!

Paper Making

PAPER MAKING PROJECT
With this hands on activity we learned how to make paper. First we dipped our mold into the pulp and had a series of different drying techniques to help speed up the process. Then we used the iron to also help dry it out then left it to finish air drying. I loved the result of the paper after it was dry. With my paper I choose to rip all the edges because of the interesting texture it made. I also experimented with throwing my acrylic inks on my paper. My favorite is how the inks soaked into the paper creating a cool effect. Overall I'm happy with the turn out of my project.

Photograms

PHOTOGRAMS
One of the hands on things we learned was how to create a photogram using light sensitive paper and placing objects on it for a period of time. It was fun! Some results turned out better than others but seeing the results was a learning experience.
The first photo is of rocks with the screen overlay. The second photo is two stencils we were given placed together to create this image. The third photo is of a variation of leaves I found outside.

Victorian, Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau, Early Modern, and Art Deco

VICTORIAN ERA
This piece is a Coca Cola advertisment done in a Victorian Era
style. It is very idealized beauty that is also very conservative.
It has a very symmetrical layout with framed photos also characteristic of the Victorian Era.

 ARTS AND CRAFTS
This piece I found is a book cover that is very reflective of the Arts and Crafts movement.
It has very organic plants and plant like shapes. Arts and Crafts's father William Morris
wanted to rediscover older traditions and this piece reflects just that.

ART NOUVEAU
This piece is very art nouveau the side profile of the woman,
flowy air, and illustrated flowers. Art Nouveau was a rebellion
from the Victorian era and the female conservative images. The woman in the
image is very free and illustrated that way.
SURREALISM (EARLY MODERN)
Surrealism movement was supported pieces that are very dreamlike.
This piece with the building of the rhino seemed very Dali-esk.
It is without boundries which is representative of Surrealism.

ART DECO
This piece is very Art Deco with blocks of color and silhuttes.
Also the pieces in this are very geometric which is very reflective of the movement.
The typeface is also very Art Deco and fits the piece very well.

Typography Design

TYPOGRAPHY DESIGN
I found this piece on the internet as an expression on
what influences graphic design. I thought it was an eye
catching illustration style that pulls your eye to the focal point thenit radiates outward. It is well thought out but feels like it was thrown together into a complete piece.

Soup Packaging

This is Coup De Soup packaging that looks like a resteraunt
is just beautiful! I love the simple elegant design of the packaging that makes you feel like your having a special treat! The design is very simple but uses sparce use of color in all the items. Every piece is very symmetrical and has a great use of balance and harmony in each one.
